A Grenfell Tower poetry event put together by Lorraine Boyce of Writers Without Borders was held on the night of June 8, 2018 at the Artefact Café, Stirchley.
The event which featured a collection for the Grenfell Foundation, book sale of the Grenfell poetry anthology- “Poems For Grenfell”, poetry readings from the book and other performances revolving mainly around the Grenfell Tower fire disaster of June 14, 2017
The event which was brilliantly compered by Steve Pottinger, had in attendance guests and performers from the West Midlands and beyond. Performers on the night included Rip Bulkeley (editor of “Poems for Grenfell” anthology), Bernadette Lynch, Jane Spiro, Anne Peck, Writers Without Borders’ duo of Femi Abidogun and Lorraine Boyce (chief host of the event) among others. There were also open mic performances by Alex, Mike and Bal.
Guests were also treated to an exhilarating musical performance by Philip Barlow.
All in all, it was a befitting event to honour the victims of the Grenfell Tower tragedy exactly a year after the sad incident took place.
Report and pictures by Femi Abidogun.
