These meetings of beautiful, creative minds just get better and better!
With the usual excitement, members gathered with the generous spirit of more than just writers and friends, more of family and loved ones.
Having dispensed with the housekeeping (some details below) the main event was palpably here. Never knowing what will be shared, the creative spirits jelled, the mood expectant, sharing began.
With a welcoming ditty from the chairman just to break the ice, the real power of spoken words flowed, in both thoughtful but sometimes shocking torrents.
We were shown a series of sketches of Cameroon, drawn by pen in words, but the images vibrant and as real as any photograph.
- Recollections of a wet Scotland contrasted vividly, but just as stimulating.
- A personal view of the day-to-day life of the often-unseen challenges of
photosensitivity was bought to light, poignantly giving everyone something to think about in our everyday lives.
Spiritual thoughts of higher plains stimulated an awareness of less earthly things, offereing a pleasing alternative place to go.
Brought back to earth with a bump, both the cruel and the beautiful in parallel descriptions of death and life in our day-to-day lives; a very powerful piece of writing that left everyone almost speechless in its honesty.
Once everyone’s breath was recovered, (it took a few moments), several pieces recollecting when members became part of the WWB family and their thoughts on being part of it.
This subject is part of a project to gather such stories in any format to make an anniversary publication for the group’s 18th coming of age celebrations in 2018. We also hope to have recordings by members of their work, through the ongoing collaboration with Birmingham City University; another instrument in the WWB creative pencil box.
Members, past present are invited to submit their thoughts and recollections of their time in the WWB family to the group. Please watch out for the details of the event as it is put together.
A couple of new publications from one of our talented members are now available on Amazon, please have a look if you can.
Collaborations with other groups are also on the calendar in various parts of the city. Action Refugee events on the 17th, and 25th June and the 30th July are welcoming WWB performers. For full details and getting your name on the lists please contact Vivian or any member as soon as possible please.
