Simo Lagnawi and Gnawa Blues Trio  ORT Cafe 500-504 Moseley Road  Balsall Heath Birmingham B12 9AH   Saturday 20th February 8pm – Entry £5

Simo Lagnawi Simo Lagnawi is the UK’s leading Guembri player and Gnawa master from Morocco.   In the last year Simo was nominated for 2 SONGLINES awards for 2014 BEST NEWCOMER, and BEST ARTIST.  His Solo Debut Album ‘Gnawa London’ released on Waulk records was featured in Songlines magazine as one of their ‘Top of the World Albums’ last September.  Simo performed at Mawazine Festival Morocco in June with his band Electric Jalaba. They also performed on the BBC3 Late Junction Stage at Latitude Festival Rhythm Tree Festival last summer, ‘Re Re Riga’ festival Latvia, Bestival, and the Smugglers Festival in Kent.  His other bands are Gnawa London which is traditional Gnawa music, Gnawa Blues Allstars which is a World Fusion Group. He performs for ‘Live Music Now’ a Charity which bring exceptional music into the lives of under-priviledged people with ‘Gnawa Yinga’. Simo continuously pushes new boundaries fusing Gnawa with music from countries such as Gambia, Burkina faso, Senegal, Guinea, Mali, India, Japan, Venezuela, and the Caribbean. He collaborates with the visual artist Hassan Hajjaj who took the cover photo, and who has designed his first album cover and photographed him for the new album.  Click here to view image Simo will be releasing his new album later in the year

Saturday 26th March Los Musicos Trio Two of the most experienced Latin guitarists in the London Tropical, Salsa and Latin music scene, Guillermo and Juan Carlos collaborate with percussionist Nickolai Rodriguez to create an exciting acoustic sound.   Saturday 16th April Didier Kisala Didier Kisala, founder member of Birmingham based Congolese band The Redeemed, performs with a smaller ensemble to create a beautiful and soulful performance.
