The time: 6.30 p.m. – 8.00 p.m. (Friday 21st August 2015)
The place: Icon Gallery, Oozles Street, Birmingham.
The event: An evening of poetry based on the fabulous ‘At Home with Vanley Burke’ exhibition with our own Sue Brown and Birmingham dub poet Moqapi Salassi.
The experience: Electric! From the rousing foot-stomping welcome of Sue to the stage following a very witty introduction from MC James Pogson, to the high energy interactive rollercoaster ride with Moqapi.
There were actual gasps from the audience at the sheer brilliance of the two performers as they prodded our consciences, our secrets, our souls with their words. Truths so delicately woven into honeyed voices still carried their sting.
But thankfully they left us with a great deal of hope and a longing to begin the changes for a better world with the face in the mirror.
The exhibition is a must. It’s on till 27th September Click the ‘Ikon’ for more information
