There were twelve writers at the meeting, all keen and eager to share their work. First we had to dispatch with the practicalities of our forthcoming performances and annual outing.
Our Birmingham Book Festival has now been confirmed as 10th October 2013 but we are still awaiting final confirmation of the time and venue.
We will also be performing at the MAC (Midland Arts Centre) on 15th June 2013 as part of Celebrating Sanctuary, one of the events of Refugee Week.
With regard to our annual outing – we’ll be going to the Ledbury Poetry Festival on Sunday 7th July, final details will be shared at the June meeting. Please note our June meeting is on the 8th NOT the 1st.
Tessa and Ali Maadi said they enjoyed the Poets’ Place meeting at Yorks Bakery two weeks ago. It’s held every second Saturday 4.00 p.m – 6.00 p.m. Ita shared that she will be performing at the Caribbean Festival in Victoria Square on Saturday 18 May at 3pm.
Then the sharing began. Members shared poems ranging in topic from refugees to ageing mothers, from disgruntle Nigerian students to stepping into other people’s shoes, and much besides.
As usual the air bristled with creativity, friendship and love.
